Washington: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that India is committed to providing vaccines to low income countries. He said there is no option but to ensure availability of vaccines for all in a successful global campaign against the Covid-19 epidemic. Addressing the International Monetary and Financial Committee, Sitharaman said the current epidemic could have a lasting impact on economies and the way society operates.
He said that even after the high rate of vaccination in developed countries as well as major emerging market economies (EME), victory over the epidemic is still a distant dream. “The nature of the virus continues to change and it is re-coming to places where it seemed to have been controlled. Because of this, there is no option but to ensure availability of vaccine for all. “
“With the problems being solved due to supply chain disruptions, India has accelerated its vaccine production within a short period of a few months. India is committed to providing vaccines to underprivileged and low income countries.
